Kinsman Families Outline Tree DNA Study

Loddington Manor as of 2007

This tree is derived from some of the earliest research done on the Kinsman family story.  Unfortunately, this early work, carried out by Harriet de Sallis in the 1870s, is somewhat flawed by her over zealousness in trying to prove her client's descent from a line entitled to bear arms.  The basic tree as reproduced here is not as appears in the original de Sallis text. It has been substantiated and augmented wherever possible by further research and reference back to primary sources.

There is one significant link omitted from this tree as published here.  de Sallis refers to the will of one Richard Fazakerly (dated 1504) to prove the link between a John Kinnesman of this Northamptonshire family of Kinsman (married into the Fazakerly family) and the Wiltshire family of John Kyngeman from which she then claimed descent for her client. This is the only reference found for this will.  It has not been located in any Calendar of Wills found to date and is therefore suspect in it's authenticity.

As new transcriptions of parish records have become more available, this ancient line has now been extended into modern times via the family which previously had been published here as the Kinsmans of Leicestershire. These two trees are now joined and published in this section.

The Kinsman of Leicestershire tree already had a Y DNA donor, which now becomes the marker for this much extended tree.  This DNA evidence has now disproved the link (as promoted by the de Sallis text) between this Northamtonshire line of Kynnesman and that of the Kingsmans and Kinsmans of Wiltshire. As yet, we still do not have a DNA sample for the Kingman line of Wiltshire.

If anyone else has a link to this family, I would very much like to hear from them.  This is especially true for anyone wishing to add their DNA profile and compare results with other known Kinsman lines.  Contact details for doing this are at Family Tree DNA.

This section contains records on 696 individuals, cross linked to 46 sources. There are 15 links to images.

DNA comments:

A DNA profile exists for this Leicester line of Kinsman, which does not match any other Kinsman line, but is a continuation of this earlier line from Northamptonshire.

More contributors are always welcome, from any of the Kinsman lines. If you'd like to see the full DNA story, or even better, if you'd like to contribute your own DNA profile and add to the story, then please follow the DNA link on the left.
