  • His Army discharge papers show that he served for a total of 13 years and was discharged at his own request, having spent 2 years in Malta, 4 months in the Crimea and 8 months in Jamaica.

    The notes say that his conduct was very good, with no mention of him in the Defaulters Book. He held two good conduct badges and had been awarded the Crimea medal with Sebastopol clasp.

    On discharge he was 5 feet 6 inches tall, of fresh complexion with brown eyes and black hair.

    He was a mason by trade.
