Will of Alice Kinsman of Kilkhampton. 1618

In the name of God Amen.

The 22nd day of June 1618, I, Alice Kinsman of Kilkhampton in the County of Cornwall, widow, being of perfect mind and memory do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

First, I give my soul to almighty God my maker and redeemer and my body to Christian burial.

Item; I give unto my Godchildren 12d apiece.

Item; I give unto my daughter Agnes [1] one bushel of wheat and thereafter yearly.

Item; I give unto Hugh Rendell my daughter’s son an heifer of two years old

Item; I give unto John Rendell his brother one sheep

Item; I give unto Jone Avery one lamb.

Item; I give unto Nicholas Mayo [2] one lamb.

Item; I give unto my daughter Jone [3] £6 13s 4d

Item; I give unto my daughter Mary [4] one bushel of wheat

Item; I give unto my daughter Jone all my wearing clothing and one bed xxx that is under the xxx, one xxx and two platter dishes.

Item; I give unto my son John [5] my best featherbed and bolster.

Item; I give unto Issack [6] my son my other best featherbed and bolster.

Item; I give unto Nathaniel [7] my son one day bed and a feather bolster.

Item; any bill due that when my debt is paid and the goods before given paid also that then I give unto Issack and Nathaniel my sons.

The one half of all my goods indell doors and outell and all the rest of my goods not given nor bequeathed I give and bequeath unto John and Jeremy [8] my sons and them I make my whole executors of this my last will and testament.

I appoint John Rolf and James Pugest to be my overseers and for their pains I give them 2s apiece.


[1] Agnes, baptised 29 Jan 1583, d/o Willmi. No marriage recorded, but probably married to Rendell, mother of Hugh and John.

[2] A nephew? Alice’s maiden name was Mayo.

[3] No baptism found for Jone. Considering the sum of money she is presumed unmarried in 1618 and this would be her dower.

[4] No baptism found. Marriage for Mary Kinsman to William Coneway in Jan 1618 (6 months after will) would fit as arrangements would already have been made and dower promised.

[6] Isaac, baptised 20 May 1592, s/o Willmi – died 1620
