    LATE MR. HOWELL MABBOTT
AN APPRECIATION BY AN OLD FRIEND.

Mr. Howelfl Mabbott, of 5, Peverellroad, Penzance, and former Mayor of the town, died last week the age of 83. . , ... An old friend of his has written this memoir:

Mr. Howell Mabbott's second wife was Miss Flora Wakeley of Canada, who was a cousin of the late Mrs Morwenna Mabbott, and of Cornish ancestry. She survives her husband. His foru children are Mr Vernon Mabbott, the head of Mabbott and Son; Mrs Gladys Ralph, widow of Mr Gerald Ralph, now at Brandon, Manitoba, Canada; Mrs Nesta Sawle-Brown, whose husband was an officer in Russia during the Great War; and Mrs Doris Purchas, widow of a Government administrator in Nigeria.

Mr Mabbott, who was a partner in the business of Trevithick and Mabbott (later Howell Mabbott) often officiated as a valuer and estate agent. It was a great source of regret to him when defective hearing caused him to resigne his seat on the Magistrate's Bench for the Borough of Penzance and many other offices. He held high office in the Order of Freemasons for many years; and during his term of office as President of the Wesleyan Local Preachers Soceity, which numbers nearly 20,000 members, he travelled all over England, preaching and giving eloquent addresses which raised a considerable sum for the benevolent fund of that unpaid body of laymen.
