Notes

  • No baptism has been found and there is a large quantity of circumstantial evidence that indicates that William is the son of John & Ebbet. However, DNA evidence shows that he was not the biological brother of John

No other Kinsman family is known in this area at this time.

In 1841, Elizabeth Triplet (aged 48, s/b 1793) was living with William in Kinsman's Cottage in Poundstock.  Jane Kinsman [daughter of John and Ebbet] married John Triplett in 1788.

In 1851 William was a widower lodging with the family of John and Grace Shepherd in Widemouth.

The tenement caleld Widemouth was leased by this Kinsman family from Lord Carteret, at least according to land tax records of 1799.

  • The photos here are of the modern house built on the site of what was, in 1841, Kinsman's Cottage where William Kinsman was living, and of Rose Cottage which is contemporary with the 1841 building and has been less developed. The site of Kinsman's Cottage is on the A39 in Poundstock, just north of Box Shop, next to Kennecott farm, which was held by the Synmons family.
