  • Between 1555 and 1563 Thomas was acting as Bailiff for the Sherriff of Essex as shown in the following manorial references to him:

    1555: Deeds re. lands in the Manor of Mylton Hall.  Grant of seisin by Lord Ryche, lord of the manor:  Half of 1 tenement & 1 croft of copyhold land with apps. called Messyngescrofte & 3½a. called Lokwarens land & 1 croft of land late Henry Dremer's containing 3a. & 6a. waste, to William Norman of Leighe, which said land has been seized by the bailiff, Thomas Kingsman in accordance with the decree of the Court of 12 Sep. 1555.

    1563: Deeds re. lands in the Manor of Mylton Hall.  Mon. after Christmas, 1563 Margaret Mower, to ½ of 1 tenement & 1 croft called Messynge Croft and ½ of 3½a. called Lockwarrensland & ½ of 1 other croft late Henry Dremer's containing by estimation 3a. land & 6a. waste formerly Roger Byrle's. On the death of her husband James, who has died since the last court and who before death surrendered his premises to the lord by the hand of Thomas Kyngsman, bailiff, in the presence of John Fowle & John Wymbye, copyhold tenants of the manor. With remainder after her death to Laurence Moyer, their son. A heriot of a cow worth 20/- to be paid to the lord. James Mower held from the surrender of William Norman in a court of 1560. Said Margaret is now espoused to Thomas Kyngsman.

Salmonds, & ½ of 1 tenement & croft of customary land called Messynge Crofte & ½ of 3½a. called Lackwarreslande and also ½ of 1 other croft lately Henry Bruer's of 3a. & 6a. waste formerly Roger Burle's at a rent of 4/3½d. p.a.
