In the Name of God, Amen

I, Thomas Kingsman, of Pauls Cray in the county of Kent, clerk, being somewhat indisposed but of a sound mind, memory and understanding, praised be God for the same, do make and publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in writing in manner and from following; that is to say:

First and most principally I do with all humility resign up my poor and immortal soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator, hoping through the Merits, Death and Passion of my Dear Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ to have and receive full and free pardon and forgiveness for all my sins and to inherit eternal life in the Kingdom of Glory and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as for such worldly estate as it pleased Almighty God of His bounteous goodness to bestow upon me, I give and bestow of the same in the manner following; that is to say:

First, I will and order and desire that all such just debts which I shall owe at the time of my decease, my funeral expenses and the charges of proving this my Will shall be paid and discharged by my executors hereafter named out of my personal Estate.

Also, I give and bequeath unto the person who shall succeed me as Rector of Pauls Cray aforesaid and also unto the Church Wardens for the time being of Pauls Cray so aforesaid and to their successors forever the sum of fifty pounds to be paid to them or some of them within three months next after my decease by my Executors hereafter named out of my personal Estate.  And my Will and Mind is, and I do hereby desire and order that my said successor and Church Wardens for the time being of Pauls Cray aforesaid and their successors shall and do so soon as conveniently may be after my decease put and place out the sum of fifty pounds at Interest upon the best Security or Securities that fall or may be had or gotten for the same and shall and do also yearly and every year for the time being pay, apply and dispose of the Interest and produce arising  from the said fifty pounds into the proper hands of a Schoolmaster or School Mistress who shall for the time being be nominated and appointed for the Teaching and Instructing so many poor Boys and Girls belonging to Pauls Cray aforesaid to read and say the Church Catechism as shall be pursuant and agreeable to the directions of Mr. Chapmans Charity Money or Sum of fifty pounds and the Interest thereof already given and applied for such or the like purpose in Pauls Cray aforesaid.

Also, I give, devise and bequeath unto my beloved son William Long Kingsman now an Infant and to his Executors and Administrators at his age of twenty-one years, all my ready money and securities for money, Old and New South Sea Security stock and other stock whatsoever, and also all the rest and residue of my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind so ever not herein before by me given and disposed of.

But if it shall happen that my said son shall die before he arrives at the age of twenty-one years, then, in such case my Will and Mind is, and I do hereby give and bequeath, the sum of three thousand five hundred pounds being part of the residue of my Estate so herein before given to my said son as aforesaid, and which is money I received for and as the marriage portion of my late deceased wife, unto Mrs Carolina Scattergood; Mrs Frances Yate wife of Thomas Yate of Hertford Doctor  in Physick; Mrs Maria Scattergood of Lincoln, spinster; and John Hazelbee son of John and Elizabeth Hazelbee and to their Executors and Administrators for ever equally to be divided between them share and share alike.

And as to the rest and residue of my personal estate whatsoever so herein before given to my said son as aforesaid in case he dies before he arrives to the age of twenty-one years as aforesaid, I give and bequeath unto my dear and loving mother Ann Kingsman of Hollis Street, London, widow for and during the rest of her natural life.  And my Will and Mind is, and I direct and order that in case my said son shall happen to die before he arrives to his age of twenty-one years my Executors hereafter named shall and do take a just and true account within six months next after my said sons decease of all the rest and residue of my personal Estate so herein before given to my said loving mother as aforesaid or intended her in this my will for her life as aforesaid and that they, my said Executors, shall and will so soon as conveniently then offer, put and place out upon good Government or other security the same in the Name of my said mother and shall and will also permit and suffer her, my said Mother, to receive all interest produce and profit from the same being only intended to be given to her in this my Will for her life and not the capital or principal sum or part thereof.  And from and after the decease of my said Mother then I give and bequeath five hundred pounds, part of the said capital or principal money, so to be put or placed out in the Name of my said Mother as aforesaid, unto and amongst all and every the Child and Children of my cousin the Reverend Mr Samuel Basket of Owermoyne In the County of Dorset equally to be divided between them share and share alike.  And if any of them happen to die under the age of twenty-one years then the part or share of such of them so dying shall go and be divided equally amongst the survivors share and share alike.  And as to the rest and residue of the said capital or principal sum of money so hereby intended to be placed out at Interest in the name of my said mother as aforesaid, together with the interest thereof, I give and bequeath the same to my cousin Roger Basket late an officer in the Marines his Executors Administrators and assigns forever.

And I do hereby appoint Robert Long Esquire Rear Admiral of the Blue and Mrs Ann Kingsman my mother Guardians to and for my said son until he arrives to his age of twenty-one years hereby desiring them to take upon themselves the Tuition and Guardianship of my said son and of his maintenance and education.

And lastly I do hereby make nominate and appoint the said Robert Long, Doctor Thomas Yate, Maria Scattergood and Roger Basket Executors in Trust for my said son until he shall attain his age of twenty-one years, hereby desiring them to see this my Will faithfully performed in all respects and purposes whatsoever.

And I do hereby desire that my Body may be interred in the Church or Churchyard of Pauls Cray aforesaid as near the remains of my late deceased wife as conveniently may be.

And I do hereby revoke all former Wills by me heretofore made and do declare this only to be my last Will and Testament.  In witness whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament contained in four sheets of paper to each sheet thereof set my hand and seal this sixteenth day of July in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty two.
