Joseph Kingsman married Caroline Rebecca Sellen on the 21st January 1922  at the local church of All Souls in Hackney, London.  He was a 23 year old bachelor, a Labourer, living at the family home of 46 Overbury Street, Clapton, Hackney.  Caroline was a 20 year old spinster of 19 Overbury Street, Hackney.  The couple had most probably spent their older school days together at the local school in Manderville Street.  Caroline's father Wallace Moncar Sellen was a Shoemaker.

The couple were married by Licence and the witnesses were her father Wallace Moncar Sellen and William Rent Card Elson, Joseph's sister Jane?s husband,  (William Elson?s second name was actually Rutland according to his marriage certificate.)

  • Joseph Kingsman was born on the 10th May 1898  at 23 King Street, in the Registration District of Holborn in the Sub-district of City Road, London, Middlesex.  His mother Mary Ann Kingsman registered the birth on the 22nd June 1898 and signed the register with a cross, as she couldn?t write her name.  His father Charles was recorded as a Type Founder.

    Joseph was living at 53a Overbury Street, Lower Clapton in 1936 and 1937.  There was an entry in Kelley?s Directory which noted him as a Confectioner.

    Joseph spent most of his life in Hackney.  He took the photograph of the Kingsman family in the garden at Overbury Street, Clapton, Park, Hackney and developed the photographs in his own cellar.

    He died on the 17th December 1977  at the Hospital in Hackney aged 79 years old where he had been a Hospital Porter during his working life.  His usual address was 5 Kirkstead Court, Mandeville Street London E5.  He died of a Cardiac Arrest with Ischaemic Heart Disease, Diabetes and Chronic Bronchitis Emphysema.  His son Robert Kenneth Kingsman of 116 Summit Estate, Portland Avenue London N 16 registered the death on the 19th December 1977
