    Hayes, John, of Wilts. pleb. MAGDALEN HALL matric. 15 Dec. 1509, aged 18; B.A. 4 Feb. 1612-13. M.A. 6 July 1615.

    He was appointed Minister at Lyneham in 1622 by John Davenant (Bishop of Salisbury).  Lyneham is about 8 miles north-west of Overton.  He retained this post until at least 1633.

    He was appointed Perpetual Vicar of Overton on the 29th March 1623/4, by John Davenant.  His patron was his father, Johannes Hayes senior, Gentleman of Wilton, who was patron by reason of advowson by Willimus Earl of Pembroke etc. etc., plus "Warden and Captain of the town and Castle of Portsmouth and island of Portsey, Chancellor of the University of Oxford"
