Will of Charles Kingman 1703

In the Name of God Amen
I Charles Kingman Citizen and Cutler of London being in good health of body and of sound and perfect mind and memory (praised be God therefore) but considering with my self the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time and hour thereof do therefore make this my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say)
First and principally I commend my soul unto the most merciful hands of Almighty God my Creator trusting and ***** believing to be saved by and through the most precious death and merits of Jesus Christ my alone Saviour and Redeemer, and my body from it to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named
And as to such wordly Estate as it hath or shall please God to bless me withal att he time of my decease I give and dispose thereof as followeth (viz)
Imprimis, after my debts and funeral charges shall be paid and satisfied I give and bequeath unto my Aunt Mrs Elizabeth Pope the sum of twenty pounds to buy her mourning
And all the rest and residue of my money, plate, jewels, household stuff, debts, goods, chattels, effects and estate, whatsoever and wheresoever both real and personal I give devise and bequeath unto my only son John Kingman to be paid him at his age of one and twenty years
And my will and mind is that he profits and advantage to be made thereby in the mean time shall be and got for the maintenance and education of my said son
But in case my said son shall depart this life before he shall attain to the said age of one and twenty years then I give and dispose of my Estate so bequeathed to my said son as aforesaid in manner following (that is to say):
I give and bequeath unto my said Aunt Mrs Elizabeth Pope fifty pounds over and above the legacy of twenty pounds herein before given her
Item, I give and bequeath unto my uncle Mr James Rift the sum of fifty pounds and my will and mind is that if either my said Aunt Mrs Elizabeth Pope or my said Uncle Mr James Rift shall be dead at the time of my decease then the legacy or legacies of the party so deceased shall be and got to the surviving party.
Item, I give and bequeath unto Mr John Pinkethman of Chick Lane, London, Goldsmith, the sum of twenty pounds
Item, I give and bequeath all the rest and residue of my estate herein before bequeathed in case of my said son?s death as aforesaid unto and amongst Benjamin Kingman, son of my late brother John Kingman deceased, Elizabeth York and Robert York, the children of my brother in law Robert York, equally between them share and share alike and between the survivors of them to be paid unto the said Benjamin Kingman and Robert York at their age of one and twenty years and to the said Elizabeth York at her age of one and twenty years or day of marriage which shall first happen
And I do hereby make and appoint my father Mr Benjamin Kingman and my said brother in law Mr Robert York and the said Mr John Pinkethman joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament desiring them duly and truly to perform the same
And my will and mind further is that in case of any of my said Executors shall depart this life at any time before this my Will shall be duly performed then I do hereby desire and appoint my brother in law Mr George Crouch to be executor of this my last Will and Testament in the room and stead of such of my aforesaid Executors as shall depart this life as aforesaid
And lastly I do hereby revoke and make void all former wills, legacies and bequests by me at anytime heretofore made or given
And I do declare this sheet of paper only to contain my last Will and Testament
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal the fourth day of December Anno Domini One thousand seven hundred and three and in the second year of the reign of our Sovereign Lady Anne, Queen of England etc.
