Notes

  • In 1616 and 1617 Walter Kingman (junior - even though he was 52 years old) was signing the parish records as Churchwarden.

The monetary bequests made in his will in 1629, ?80 to each of his five sons and ?160 as dowry for his daughter Alice, indicate an estate in excess of ?1 million with the value of money inflated as average earnings, ignoring the land he also left for his son Walter and his residual estate which is unspecified.  A very wealthy man.

His daughter Elizabeth is not mentioned in his will and is so assumed to have died young.

His father-in-law is named as Edward Pressy, and he had already given ?100 towards the dowry of Alice.  His wife is named as Elynor.  The spelling given in the IGI reference for her marriage has her as Helen Precy.

Walter also makes a small bequest to his two sisters who were still living in 1629, but does not name them.
