  • Thomas was tried at the Old Bailey on the 14 Dec 1840, aged 20, for stealing a handkerchief, value 4 shillings.  He was found guilty and sentenced to 3 months confinement.

    On the 29th September 1841 he was again charged with stealing a handkerchief, value 3 shillings.  On being found guilty this second time he was sentenced to 10 years transportation.

    He was initially placed on board the Prison Hulk Leviathan after his trial and then transferred to the DL on 17 March 1842. On receipt at the Leviathan he was said to be aged 22, single, could read and write. He was a labourer and had been convicted before.

    He was transported on the 26 March 1842 on the Candahar, one of 250 convicts on that vessel.

    The ship arrived at Van Diemens Land.
