Will of James Poplewell, Yeoman of Belton. 1652

In the name of God Amen.

I James Popplewell of Belton in the Isle of Axholme in the county of Lincolne yeoman being ... in body and of good and perfect remembrance thanks be to Almighty God do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following

First I give and bequeath my soul to Almighty God my maker and redeemer and hopeth to have life everlasting by the death and ... of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Belton 

Item; I give to my son John Poplewell all my houses? lands and tenements whatsoever within the ... and ... of the parish of Belton to him and heirs forever except three acres and half of land arable lying in a p... Linnoft will all the wood thereupon and ... of pasture with all other profitts whatsoever belonging to my house wherein I live with the rest of the other houses and land belonging to them but if my said son John Poplewell should [not] accomplish the full age of twenty and one years then my will and bequeath is that all the houses lands and tenements whatsoever except before excepted shall remain and ... to Robert Poplewell my uncle and his heirs and assigns for ever 

Item; I give and bequeath to my said son John the tuition of kinsman Richard Kynman and his estate during the minority 

Item; I give to the said Richard Kinman the sum of five shillings and to his brother Joshua Kinman five shillings 

Item; I give to my brother John Poplewell five shillings to be paid to him within one month after my decease 

Item; I give to my sister Anne Poplewell one pair of Virginalls and one guilt bible to be delivered to her within one month after my decease 

Item; I give to Richard Caw*** my servant one chair and table to be delivered to him within ten days after my decease to go ... forward for him to his best profit

Item; I give to the poor and impotent people of this parish twenty shillings to be given to them at my burial 

Item; I will and bequeath to the supervisors of this my last will and testament the three acres and a half of land excepted lying in Lincroft within this parish of Belton to be sold by them and the money to be paid to my executor 

Item; I give and bequeath all the rest of my goods and chattels unbequeathed unto John Poplewell my son my debts being paid and funeral expenses discharged and do make him full executor of this my last will and testament 

and I desire these my good friends Humfrey Poplewell my father in law and Robert Poplewell my uncle to be supervisors of this my last will and testament and do give to either of them ten shillings and to have their charges whensoever they shall go about anything ***ing this my said and will and testament 

In witness whereof I now hereunto set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of March [1652]
