Will of Richard Long, Gentleman of Horsforth, Yorkshire. 1696.


In the name of God Amen


The three and twentieth day of June in the year of our Lord according to the computation of the church of England 1681, I Richard Long of Horsforth in the parish of Guiseley and Addle in the County of York, Gentleman, being in perfect health of body and of sound and perfect disposing mind and memory yet calling to mind the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the hour and time when, do make ordain and constitute this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following 


First, I commit my soul to Almighty God my maker hoping and steadfastly believing through the alone merits and mediation of my saviour Jesus Christ to obtain full and free pardon and remission of all my sins and to inherit everlasting bliss 


And my body I commit to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my executrix hereafter named 


And then as touching what temporal estate it has pleased Almighty God to bless me with, all my debts and funeral expenses being first faithfully discharged and paid, I give devise and bequeath the same in manner and form following 


Item, I give devise and bequeath all that my real estate whatever situate lying and being within the Lordship and liberty of Horsforth in the parish of Guiseley and Addle (except what by deed or writing is already settled and what is entailed to my heirs) unto my dear and loving wife Phillip Long by her after my decease to be forthwith sold and disposed of as she shall think fitting to the children of our to bodies lawfully begotten 


Item, I give devise and bequeath all that my real estate whatever situate lying and being in Sharrow in the parish of Ripon in the County of York to my said dear wife Phillip Long by her forthwith after my decease to be sold and disposed amongst the children of our two bodies lawfully begotten as she shall think convenient 


Item, all the rest and residue and clear remainder of my estate whatever I give and bequeath the same to my said dear wife Phillip Long whom I do hereby make and ordain sole executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking and annihilating and make void all former and other Wills by me heretofore made 


In testimony whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal the day and year first above written

Proved at York 22 October 1697 by Phillip Long of Horsforth the widow and sole executrix. 


Elizabeth Kirk appeared alongside Phillip Long as co-signatory to the probate document.
