Will of Mary Chapman als: Hiscocke, widow of Preshute. 1570


In the name of God Amen


In the year of our Lord God 1569 the eleventh day of September in the eleventh year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Elizabeth by the grace of God of England France and Ireland queen defender of the faith, I Marye Chapman alias Hiscockes of Preshute in the county of Wilts and diocese of Sarum, widow, being sick in body and of good and perfect remembrance thanks be given to Almighty God for it, I do ordain and make this my Last will and testament in manner and form following


First I give and bequeath my Soul to God my maker and redeemer & my body to be buried in the parish church of Preshute above said in the middle of the same church next unto Margaret Daniell.


Item I give and bequeath to the poor people 40 shillings of good and lawful money of England to be distributed out of hand.


Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Hiscokes mine eldest son 20 pounds in current English money.


Also I leave unto his children Robart, John, Marie, Margaret, Elizabeth and Jelia 6 quarters of barley that is to say unto every one of them a quarter apiece and if any of them do die before they be able to receive it then I will that his here or their part so deceased shall remain to the longest survivors to be divided amongst them by equal portions. All such barley I will to be delivered unto their father to their use within one half year after my Decease.


Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Hiscokes my second son 20 pounds of lawful English money.


Also I give unto his final five children John, Thomas, William, Samuell and Anne unto every one of them one quarter of barley apiece and if any of them shall happen to die before they be able to receive it then I will that his here or their part so deceased shall remain to the longest survivors to be divided by equal portions and the same delivered to their father to their use within one half year after my decease.


Item I give unto Robert Hiscokes my youngest son 20 pounds of current English money.


Also I give unto his four children Robert, William, Marye and Elizabeth unto every of them one quarter of Barley apiece and if any of them shall happen to die before they be able to receive it then I will that his her or their part so deceased shall remain to the longest survivors to be divided amongst them by equal portions and the Same to be delivered unto their father to their use within one half year after my decease and


Also I will that the above said money given unto my 3 sons shall be delivered within one half year after my decease unto every one his portion as before is mentioned.


Item I give unto my sons four children John, Robert, Agnis and Marie unto every one of them a quarter of barley apiece to be delivered as before I willed the barley of the other sons children to be delivered 


Item I give unto Margaret Culleron my servant 20 shillings of lawful English money. 


Item I give and bequeath unto Phillipe Godwine 20 shillings of good and lawful English money whom I ordain and make one of mine overseers.


Item I give unto Richard Chaynye 20 shillings s of good and lawful money of England whom I ordain and make another of mine overseers.


The residue of my goods and chattels moveable and immoveable not given nor bequeathed, debts paid and my will fulfilled I give and bequeath unto John my son whom I ordain and make my sole and whole executor to this my last will and testament
