In the name of God Amen.


The 25th day of December the year of our Lord God 1553 And the First year of the Reign of Mary by the grace of God Queen of England France Ireland, defender of the faith, etc., I John Blake of the parish of South Newton in the County of Wiltshire, husbandman, being of good and perfect memory but yet sick in body do make this my testament containing my last will in manner and form following: 


First I give and bequeath my soul to Almighty God And my bodie to be buried in the church yard of South Newton aforesaid 


Item, I give and bequeath to my said parish church of South Newton 20d 


Item, to the Cathedral church of Salisbury 8d. 


Item, to Wishford bridge 12d 


Item, to my sister Maria Graye one acre of wheat and another of barley. 


Item, to my daughter Margery 5 sheep and a pair of silver crocks 


Item, to my daughter Agnes 5 sheep and a pincase 


Item, to my daughter Elisabeth a pair of beads with silver gawdyes and 5 sheep 


Item, to my daughter Alys a girdle with silver hooks and 5 sheep 


Item, to my daughter Christian a silver crock and a coffer and 5 sheep 


Item, to my daughter Maryan a silver pin and 5 sheep. 


Item, to my son Walter a masar cup, 2 silver spoons, a table board, a cow and 5 sheep 


Item, to my son Gylys a bullock, an acre of wheat and another of barley, and the best iron bar and 5 sheep 


Item, to my son William a bullock and 5 sheep 


Item, to my son Edward one bullock and 5 sheep and one Flock bed 


Item, to my wife’s 4 children 4 lambs 


Item, to Robert Fry a cupboard 


Item, to my wife a feather bed and all the pewter and brass that was hers before 


Item, to my son Robert Blake the other feather bed and all my working tools and my cart horse with all the wool that is upon it and an iron bar


Also my silvered spoons and all my wearing raiment, my brass, pewter and lattyn and my befold with all other treey vessels as they shall think best to bestow it amongst my children as I put my trust in them that is to say Walter Graye and John Kyngman whom I make overseers of this my last will and testament to see it truly performed and fulfilled, and they shall have for their labours 20s betwixt them 


Item to B William Toppying my ghostly Father 12d 


The Residue of all my goods moveable and unmoveable not given nor bequeathed I give and bequeath unto Edythe my wife and to Robert Blake my son whom I make mine executors the one as for the the other to dispose for the health of my soul and all Christians 


Also I will that all the foresaid sheep to be delivered at shear time with the wool upon their backs
