Will of Ruben Kingsman of Stepney. 1664


In the name of God Amen.


The 16th day of April anno domini 1664 and accordingly 10th year of his Majesty's reign, I Ruben Kingsman being sick in body but in perfect mind and memory praised be Almighty God for the same knowing the uncertainty of this life on Earth and being desirous to settle things in order to enable this my last will and Testament in manner and form following


First and principally I commend my soul to God my creator in hopes of a full pardon of all my sins through the merits of Jesus Christ my saviour: my body to the Earth from whence it was taken to be buried in such decent manner as shall be thought fit mete and convenient by my executor of this my will named And as concerning the worldly estate that God in his mercy has lent me my will and meaning is the same shall be performed as hereafter in this my will is expressed


Item, I will give and bequeath unto my very loving son John Kingsman four Butts of Sherry Sack: and to be left in the hands of my very loving brother John Hills, merchant, for the education and bringing up of my said son John Kingsman


Item I will give and bequeath unto my said son five pounds in money


Item I will give and bequeath unto my very loving wife Mary Kingsman one butt of Sherry Sack


Item, I will give and bequeath unto my very loving friend George Care of Fox's Lane, Cooper, 10 shillings to buy him a ring


Item, I will give and bequeath unto my very loving sister Elizabeth Hill 10 shillings to buy her a ring


Item, I will give and bequeath unto my very loving brother John Hill 10 shillings to buy him a ring


The rest and residue of all my estate real and personal whether money or goods which I have not disposed of in this my will, my meaning is the same shall be left in the hands and possession of my very loving brother John Hill in consideration of a debt of £40 which I owe unto my said brother, but if there should not remain goods nor moneys in his hand sufficient to discharge the debt my will is that my said brother shall pay himself out of the legacies given by me to my son John Kingsman


And I do by these presents make name and ordain my very loving brother John Hill within named my full and absolute executor of this my last Will and Testament, revoking all other and former wills by me heretofore made or consented unto be made to be Null and void and this my Last Will and Testament shall stand firm and stable for ever, as witness my hand and seal the day and year first above written
